Twenty years of painting: Saint Damien at Kalaupapa, Native Hawaii Animals, and the new Landmark Series

2026 Moloka’i Landmark Series

Moloka’i has inspired Catherine Buchanan’s painting for decades. The Moloka’i Landmark Series strives to capture the island’s character, beauty and natural wonders. The paintings will be on display at the Moloka’i Airport in Ho’olehua. Richard A. Cooke III has spent decades capturing the mysterious, rugged beauty of Moloka’i and generously offered the use of some of his images to the series.
“Most often I paint from photographs that I take and work in the studio on large canvas. When Richard Cooke offered his iconic photographs for inspiration I was thrilled. Our paths crossed through a shared interest in photography. It’s exciting to bridge the gap between the precision of photography and the translative, slower process of painting.”
Reproductions have recently replaced much of the original artwork at the airport due to termites eating the wood stretcher frames over time.
The original paintings that are available can be purchased through this site. catherinebuchanan.com
Reproductions on canvas are available in many sizes, from a full range of paintings.
The paintings and reproductions at the airport are on loan from Catherine Buchanan.
